Ecurie Ecosse Young Driver Colin Noble makes his European debut for the team this weekend at the historic Monza circuit just 20km outside Milan, Italy, in the first round of the 2017 Michelin Le Mans Cup.
Driving the same Ligier LMP3 car that he drove to a dominant double victory at Donington Park in the equivalent British LMP3 series 3 weeks ago, Colin will pair up for the first time with 2016 Radical Masters Champion Tony Wells as they compete in a 20 strong field of LMP3 and GT3 cars.
The Michelin Le Mans Cup is a series of 7 races held at 6 circuits over the season, designed as a stepping stone to the full Le Mans World Championship Endurance series. Most races are a single 2 hour race held at the same events as the World Championship series, but the second and third races are double header support races at the iconic Le Mans 24 hours in June.
Friday saw the duo set competetive times in both one hour practice sessions, finishing 2nd in the morning session, and 5th but only 0.3s off the fastest time in the afternoon. Saturday sees qualifying at lunchtime, then the 2 hour race starting at 16.45 local time.
Colin (20) was happy after today's sessions. "We both know the circuit so we concentrated on finding a good race set up, using only one set of tyres and running race level fuel load, so I'm very happy with today's times and Tony is among the fastest of his grade so our combined average looks promising for the race". He continued "Unlike most front runners we saved two of the limited 3 sets of new tyres for tomorrow which means we'll have new ones for qualifying and the race". During the 2 hour race, there will be a stop to refuel and in most cases change the driver, around the 1 hour mark.
